Google Developers Group (GDG) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital, has concluded arrangements to host the 2019 Google I/O event. This is taking place few days after Google developers all over the world gathered in Mountain View, California for the same annual event hosted by Google.
Google I/O (or simply I/O) is an annual developer conference held by Google in Mountain View, California. I/O was inaugurated in 2008, and is organized by the executive team. “I/O” stands for input/output, as well as the slogan “Innovation in the Open”. The event’s format is similar to Google Developer Day.
During the event, Google announces new products and innovations in the market and various speakers take participants through various session introducing what Google is up to in the coming year. At this year’s event Google announced Android Q Beta 3, Pixel 3a and 3a XL, Flutter on web, Google Lens, Google Firebase, AR walking directions in Google Maps, Offline, streamlined Google Assistant, Android driving mode, Kotlin-First Development, Google Home devices renamed to Nest, Android Q live captioning, Project Mainline (streamlined OS update process on Android Q), Duplex web API, The afterparty was hosted by The Flaming Lips. There was no hardware giveaway.
“Google I/O 2019 took place last week at Silicon Valley and we are excited to bring the same experience to our local community through an extended event. We will discuss and try our hands on Google’s latest products and tools.” Nsikak Thompson, the event coordinator announced in the GDG Uyo mailing lists.

17th May = Codelabs sessions
18th May = Speaker session and games
