GDG Aba to Host Nigeria’s Tech Ecosystem. The Aba tech ecosystem is vibrating on a very high frequency of excitement as they announce the hosting of Google Developers Festival (DevFest) 2017 for South South and South Eastern part of Nigeria. This is made known on the GDG Aba blogspot.
According to the blog post, the conference will hold on Friday November 10, 2017 from 8am – 5pm at the El-Dorado Event Center Aba-Owerri Road Aba, in Abia State. The group revealed that the hosting right came as a result of votes casted by Managers of Google Developer Groups in the region where GDG Aba came out victorious.
DevFest South South and South East Nigeria is hoped to be the biggest Google technology conference in Nigeria that will bring together the world’s experts in Android, Web, Cloud and other Google Technologies. This interaction with the Aba ecosystem will definitely see new startups emerging from the ecosystem as no such conferences had ever been futile after the impact.
Over the years, the world’s biggest search engine has gone on what I may term ‘skill hunt’ across the several ecosystems in Africa. In doing this, google establishes a developer group in these ecosystems with managers and mentors to oversee the operations in the groups.
Developers Festival is therefore an event arranged by these GDG Groups to sensitize the ecosystem with the latest technology trend. During the event, keynotes are delivered, experiences are shared, startups are pitched, morale are boosted and much more is achieved.
Last year, the event was held in Port Harcourt Rivers State, where we had over 500 developers, entrepreneurs, students, organisations, government representatives and Google experts boosting the Port Harcourt ecosystem. In November, tech experts are expected to elaborate on the following technologies: Google Technologies And How We Can Leverage On Them To Solve Local Problems
Android App Development & Kotlin, Firebase, Google App Engine, Progressive Web Apps, Polymer, Machine Learning And Artificial Intelligence, UI/UX, Hands-On Codelabs On Android App Development, Robotics And Drone Technologies, Google Assistant, Opportunities For Ladies In Technology, Business, Model For Startups, Android Things.
Recently Aba ecosystem was in the news when a 10-Year-Old Victoria Became the Youngest Computer and Game Programmer in Abia State. This happened during a three (3) day Tech Summer Code Camp for kids and teens tagged “Abia4Tech TeenHack,” organized by the leading Software and Technology Innovation Hub (RAD5 Tech Hub) in Aba, Abia State which ended on Friday 18th August, 2017.
Unfortunately, information reaching us in Technology Forest has it that the government of Abia State and the neighbouring south south and south eastern part of Nigeria does not support tech ecosystems founded in the region. However, the successes of hubs and startups in the region in the past few years has been jaw dropping to all lovers of technology.
